Where to get Obama yard sign?

I tried to get an Obama yard sign at the office on Superior Street and was told that they haven't had any since the convention I signed up to be called when they come in). I tried on line and found that they can be purchased for $8 but that it costs $8.77 for shipping. Does anybody have an idea where I can get an Obama sign in Duluth? The McCain signs are popping up like mushrooms and it would be nice to counteract this.

Maybe that's why my Obama sign was stolen from my front yard this past weekend.

The Obama campaign isn't keen on getting signs out. Get a Franken one instead!

i got one on sunday. they said that i got the last one.

I hada friend go down tothe Obama HQ and cooled his heels for a couple of minutes before someone finally wrenched himself from the computer to see what he wanted. He requested specific information on Obama issues and noone there could help him. One girl didn't even know his campaign website. He said the staff of youngters seemed more concerned about talking on the phone or pounding the keys on the computer than engaging an actual person. Frustrating.

I would save your money. We will need it when we have to pay for the free health care he is promising.

I can't remember a time when someone's political views were changed by a feeble yard sign, bumper sticker, or tv commercial. The types of people who display such propaganda seem to also display a yearning for approval in hopes that their chosen candidate will win some fictitious cardboard popularity contest. Low hanging fruit if you ask me.

I've heard multiple, multiple complaints that the downtown Duluth Obama office is staffed with bored cakesiders: if you're looking for a party, you've gone to the wrong place. No bumper stickers, no yard signs, no free lunches. (Why people would expect to get shit for free {or even cheap}, though, is beyond me. If you want it, pay the shipping. If you don't want to pay the shipping, you must not want it.*)

And sending shills into bars to register frat boys does not count.

* Chain it to a tree. Or put it next to a "Big Fucking Dog" sign.

Thanks for your helpful response. The reason that I would expect 'free' stuff is that I'm offering a free spot for the campaign to display their sign. For the same reason I wouldn't pay to have a KAVU or Jackson Kayak sticker on my car, I wouldn't pay to have someone display their sign on my lawn. Because I believe in the products, I am willing to display their propaganda if they give it to me.

I believe in beer and girls hula hooping.

i have had the same experience of not being able to secure a sign at the office. (they were helpful with me, however.)

we are either going to order one online (and consider it a donation, natch.) but i've also been considering recycling some plywood with my own sign: No More Liars; No More Thieves.
OBAMA.

i am not seeking approval from anyone by posting a sign. it is my figurative pointy stick in the eye of any republican who lives near me or drives by my house. since actually poking a pointy stick in their eyes would get me sent to jail. also. also! i want to make it easier for the Palinazis to find me when she's president. i'm ready, with my pointy stick.

hbh, you are so right on! We bought an Obama sign in August and wouldn't you know it, it was stolen the first weekend after the UMD students returned. Shit, it pissed me off, it's probably in some little punk's dorm room right now. I really don't want to spend a fortune on signs, so I too will make my own Obama sign.

"I believe in beer and girls hula hooping"

I want this on a T-shirt.

This may shed some light on the whole lawn sign thing.

i believe in beer and girls on trampolines.

You could try calling the Superior office at 715-718-0488. The office is located right next to Northwest Outlet, on Belknap. If you're interested in another way to have an impact in this election, the "Neighbor to Neighbor" feature on www.barackobama.com is a fantastic way to make calls for the campaign right from your house.

Interesting. I guess it's plywood for me.

I actually love the idea of making your own sign. These always feel more authentic and probably catch the eye more.

Post a photo of your creation.

Minnesota hasn't voted for a Republican as president since? If that was to change this year it would be unusual. Although I have seen a McCain sign in the yard of a guy who has been a Demo for as long as I can remember.

You could get a McCain sign and draw a red circle and line on it, similar to a "no smoking" sign.

Or, you could get a McCain sign and paint "SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE" across it.

hbh,
pls be careful with the "When she's prez" b.s. it's just tooo close now to mess around. :) manifest.

What is it you are trying to say with your yard sign?

That you are part of this cool tribe and not that old fuddy-dud tribe?

That you consume this brand of pure sugar water but not that other nasty brand?

That you are more "progressive" than your stupid neighbors?

You keep consuming, keep identifying, keep buying that brand of turd sandwich. If only you consume enough, identify enough, eat enough shit, then maybe your fella will win. But even if he wins, YOU still lose and you have that shit taste in your mouth.

Tastes great doesn't it? and its less filling!

Why haven't we seen any McBain parody signs yet?

"Up and at them!"

Lawn signs are simply a way of showing support. People wear crosses around their necks, wear their favorite teams shirts and hats, their favorite musical groups merchandise and this goes un checked. It is just a show of support, plain and simple. I believe it is safe to say everyone is fed up with the bombardment of election coverage and in your face campaigning done on both sides. Lawn signs are harmless, if you want one, put one up, if you don't, then don't.

Stars upon thars. Put up a sign if it makes you feel better, or makes you think it makes other people feel better (or worse). Just do your part. Political activism for whatever or whomever you support does have a large effect, despite what some people believe. almost as big as an effect as political apathy.

Your lawn sign wont get you into heaven.

and being a jaded prick will???

make that an arrogant jaded prick.

Can't the local college kids get some kind of contest going on who can collect the most yard signs in one night or something like that. Do they float?

What you put on your property is your business. I'm fine with it. I think it is visual pollution, but I respect your right to your property.

I just wish you'd examine your reasons for putting up a political sign.

And if I can convince you that maybe:
your one additional sign doesn't mean shit to Mr. Obama,
that your donation won't mean shit,
that your vote doesn't mean shit,
that Mr. Obama could care less about you unless you are a conduit to his attainment of power,
that you are not a unique snowflake,
then I will gain entrance into the agnostic, anarchist heaven (dude we get 144 virgins in our version) that I so desire.

Perhaps you, too, will become jaded when you realize that your political Saviour can't/won't save you. Its up to you to save yourself. But I understand that its easier to hide behind nebulous platitudes of "Hope and Change". Thinking for yourself is so hard. Its much easier to consume that brand, stay with the herd, nod in agreement as they fit your chains and collar. May they rest lightly.

belittlement and ridicule is the longest route to convincing someone to see things your way.

one can catch more flies with honey than one can with vinegar.

AJP-

You are hilarious. Your anarcho-anger is so sexy. You probably where black. Cuz it's cool.

I like beer and agree with arrogant jaded pricks.

blogguy uttered:"You probably where SIC black. Cuz it's cool.

I sometimes wear black socks when mowing the lawn. Black accentuates my supple, anarcho-sexy calves. Glad I could make you drool.

I feel pretty...

I disdain of beer.

Is Obama going to single handedly going to save the country and make everything alright. Probably not. Is there a massive fucking difference between Obama and McCain. Abso-fucking-tutly. If you can't see that then have fun in your to cool for school jaded little prick world. Because if you throw your vote away to Nader or any such Quixote like candidate you will get what you deserve. Another four years of the Bush Doctrine.

so, uh, when did it become cool for you, AJP, to spit in other's faces? Metaphorically speaking.

I, guess I get it, you hate how the government is run, and you believe with every fiber of your being that it will never get better. That's cool.. all teenagy angst and all that. But it is a bit duplictious to say "I respect your right..." while also essentially saying "you fucking idiot how could you, you obviously aren't thinking"

You know, we ARE conduits to whomever gains office, a million snowflakes creates a difference. There is no such thing as an individual changing the world on their own, that is a myth.

I don't know if Obama is going to be any-one's "savior" (and how demeaning to work in those tones), I certainly disagree with him on many issues. I also think he may well make a good president.

As to demeaning and devaluing the vote, do whatever rocks your world, but it certainly does not contribute to a better place, it just makes things a bit more ugly. If that's the mark you want to make, make it.

"But it is a bit duplicitous to say "I respect your right..." while also essentially saying "you fucking idiot how could you, you obviously aren't thinking""

Unlike the Democrats (and Chris above) who make no pretense of respecting anyone's right to vote for anyone but a Democrat (or at least a Republican, but they won't tell you that).

Anyone who can't see that the supposed differences between the Democrat Party and the Republican Party are irrelevant to the position we're in now is a lot more content with the status quo than I am thereby making small differences seem larger.

Whatever doctrine they preach for votes, the most important thing they care about is keeping themselves in power. The despicable tactics they use to keep that power make them both unworthy of my vote. If you feel differently, vote for them but after the election you'll be just as irrelevant to them as I will.

to be sure the "parties" use similar tactics and have a vested interest in not allowing a larger section of the population to be adequately represented through 3rd parties. But there is a big difference in the individuals running. And in fact looking at ALL the individuals running currently for president, major and minor parties, to me the Democratic choice is the best this year. Barr has some decent positions, but some deal breakers, Nader (who I did vote for in '00) has turned himself into a joke and has seemingly become terribly monomaniacal, Ron Paul was absurd...

So, as an Independent (not Independence party), there is not much that can be said regarding the need for a third party that I won't agree with, I strongly support IRV, and strongly hate the current EC voting system. But, this year, too me, out of all the candidates there is an real individual difference. Indeed in this cycle most of one party is better than the other.

Do you truly think any third party would view you differently if they obtained power? We are in a Global Scale system currently, and all the players have bought into it. That is not an excuse to wash our hands of everything and declare there is nothing to be done, we are defeated, and "btw if you vote for a major party candidate you are an idiot".

We need a few more political parties, indeed, but unless we have proportional voting and IRV that change is not going to happen, and the only way those things happen is if we work on a Statewide basis. http://www.fairvotemn.org/resources/tools/irvprimer_11142002.html

Until that point, we do the best we can, and we should encourage people to be actually involved in the system instead of dropping out.

edgeways gets a word in edgeways: "we should encourage people to be actually involved in the system instead of dropping out."

I disagree. The system is rigged against you. It was rigged way back 230-some years ago. Trying to change it from within (remember Wellstone?) is futile.

Majority rule is nothing but several wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Or several rich congresscreatures deciding to spend your children's and grandchildren's money to bailout their good buddies.

In the same way, that I refuse to gamble (because the game is rigged), I refuse to vote. I don't play when I am guaranteed to lose.

I would even go so far as to say voting is immoral.

Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring.
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again."

ajp-
i disagree. i am a unique snowflake, thanks to our awesome heavenly father.

:O)

uhhuh,

Yes, yes you are. Your golden unicorn awaits you. Quickly now.

edgeways,

Gang rape is also a form of majority rule.

No really, we VOTED on it and it was all legal like.

No hanging chads or nothing. By the mutha-fukkin book.

Now bend over.

so, uh you are engaging in rape fantasies now?

I fail to see the freedom in this country when the citizens can only pick between 2 yard signs. We have somehow managed to take politics, something inherently gray, and turn it into black and white.

I am allowed more freedoms playing rock paper scissors.

We are instilling a form of political racism in the future generations. Pick on or the other, and feel superior to the opposite party.

Getting back to signage, if you can't get one, why not make your own? You can go here to find links to places to download signage. Print out the PDFs you like, spray glue 'em to plywood or plastic sign material you can get at any art store, and then waterproof them with clear spray. I did it myself- works out pretty well.

Don't support either candidate, but i've certainly made a FUN GAME for myself STEALING MCAIN YARDSIGNS. I listen to the pissed of war mongers at the coffee shop the next day. It's actually very satisfying. Brings back the days of kick the can & night games.

TIP: Why take the whole sign? Just slip the plastic off. I get 8 or 10 at a time :).

This may all sound trivial but people are sheep and we live in a consumer culture dominated by marketing. Yard signs are ad impressions.

Happy hunting!

NO MCCAIN & NOBAMA, but definitely no mccain & definitely no Palin

oh jeeze. now we have a paultard in here.

Yeah yours. But I can't tell which end you want to be on - giving or receiving?

Not that I'm offering either option.

What you are proposing can be summed up by saying "If only we had the right gang rapists in office..."
