I just heard about this last night and thought I'd post it for anyone with the inclination and cashola to attend.

Frickin luv Steve Earle. Frickin' cannot believe a lefty such as hisself would charge $35 bones for a college-based show. Can't afford. Won't go. No longer admires him quite as much. I have little doubt he could afford to offer cheaper shows in towns like ours.

He probably doesn't set the ticket price. He most certainly requires a "guarantee" and the venue bases their ticket price on what they feel they need to make in order to at least break even. Very few artists below the level of say the Rolling Stones set their own ticket price. It's the promoters and venue that figure that out. And yeah, it sucks when you can't afford the show you really want to see.

That was the mojitos talking. Obviously.

Well, regardless of whose fault it is, I have to say something. I was actually listening to "Christmas in Washington" ten minutes ago, thinking about what a terrific song it is, and then I find out he's playing at CSS. I'm disappointed in $35. Especially since I'd bring my wife, who is only vaguely familiar with Steve Earle and not that big of a fan of the genre.

Maybe Woody Guthrie will "tear his eyes from paradise and rise again somehow," and then play shows that his supporters can afford to attend.

i'm sure the "monopoly" is behind this.

if we're playing Monopoly, I got dibs on the car.

I'm another someone who would have gone if the price had been lower, but it doesn't seem to be at all out of line with other ticket prices to me. Greg Brown and Leo Kottke have played there more frequently at close to the same price.
