Big tree kills little tree
I'll be in mourning for a while over this one. I just planted my little Autumn Blaze Maple last fall. He had so much promise; so much life ahead of him. I never dreamed he'd be crushed by his big brother in a tragic accident.

upon reading my previous post, i was suggesting that trees are cannibals, not cannibals are killers...though, sometimes cannibals are killers...most of the time, actually...
ahh, screw it, i'm sorry about your maple.

can't exactly tell from the picture but the little tree could be salvageable. If it does live it will come back more powerful than you would have imagined. Kinda like Obi Wan post Darth.
Try calling U of M extension ask for a master gardener (in training) and you can get really good advice for free. Maybe even an on site visit.
They are tough, those trees. I wouldn't count it out yet.
