"The Girl in the Fireplace" episode of Doctor Who played out like a classic 1950s science fiction story. It was a lovely and elegant script well executed. I especially like that the robots were these retro clockwork mechanisms. I'm glad it won. Well done.
And Pan's Labyrinth is simply one of the best fantasy movies of all time.

As far as books, no terrible surprise, Vinge is a decent writer and is a good choice for the big prize
