Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, as well as mayors from the surrounding communities, welcome visitors and residents alike to the downtown Duluth Depot for the opener of the Labor Day Weekend 2016 Pride Celebration. Featuring live music and a brief presentation to honor outstanding contributors to the GLBTQAI community. Free snacks and free beer while they last. A cash bar is available, too. Dr. Linda LeGarde Grover will give a presentation titled “The Sky Watched: Ojibwe Historical Narratives of Northeastern Minnesota.” The program is based on her newest book of poetry, The Sky Watched: Poems of Ojibwe Lives, winner of the Red Mountain Editor’s Award. Her lecture connects these oral history poems with paintings and photographs of local Ojibwe. It also ties into the Lake Superior Ojibwe Gallery, including the Eastman Johnson collection. Antique Appraisal

Members of the public are invited to bring an antique or collectible to the Depot's Great Hall for a free appraisal. Dan Sershon of Northland Estate Services and Denny Mager of Northern Specialty will offer their opinions on the value of submitted antiques. People may bring up to two items for an informal oral identification and evaluation of each antique. Anthony Bush has played amateur baseball for 19 years and has been the Proctor Rails’ pitching coach for 13 years. His baseball articles have been published by the Duluth Budgeteer, Proctor Journal and Zenith City Online. He is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research and has been published on their website.
