It’s probably the worst on Grand Avenue in West Duluth, but above is a shot on Fourth Street in the Central Hillside. You know what it is and obviously it pisses you off, but what is it called? Duluth has probably never experienced it before to an extent worth coming up with a name for it.
A news release today from the city of Duluth refers to it as “caked-on ice.” Is that good enough, or does someone have a better term?
I think that PDD needs to solve the mystery of the headless snowman, preferably in the form of a song, an epic poem, or maybe a short story in the style of O. Henry or Charles Dickens. Ok. Go.
For the past few years around this time, the discussion on PDD has turned to Tom & Jerrys – where to find the fixins, if there are acceptable alternatives to Connolly’s, and the ups and downs for Connolly’s.
The PDD film crew got sweet and sticky with Steve Knauss and John Kurth as they began production on this year’s batch of Connolly’s Tom & Jerry batter.

I’m looking for a description of it (my memory is not always to be trusted) or, even better, old photos. I remember it from when I was a child, so that would have been in the mid-to-late 1960s, maybe even 1970s. I don’t remember when it closed but it had been there since the late 1800s.
I am looking for someone to do a rock cover of a 3-minute song I wrote, preferably heavy metal but something more punkish would be OK, too. I can pay $50 and it doesn’t have to be that good, the most important thing is that the vocals be clear and understandable. This is for a Christmas present for someone, so I need it by Dec. 22. The Duluth Sister Cities-Ohara Japan delegation for kids 12-15 is taking applications until Jan 3. The group will travel to Japan for 10 days in August 2014 and host a Japanese student in August 2015.
This 2008 Pro Video documentary, produced and directed by Tom Livingston and Jack Lind, disappeared from the internet for a while, but now it is back.
I’m curious to see what the study consists of and who will conduct it. I’m sure the public will have an opportunity to provide input and review the study. Regardless of whether an ATV trail is eventually approved, enforcement is an ongoing issue on our city trails (and not just regarding snowmobiles and ATVs).

If any of you missed the Harbor City Roller Dames first double header and Women’s Flat Track Derby Association sanctioned bout at the DECC, you missed some amazing roller derby action (twice as much as usual).
I was walking in Lincoln Park just an hour ago and this female dog seemed to not know where to go. She was poking her nose in snowbanks back and forth for blocks along Third street. She wouldn’t let me get close enough to see her tags. She’s golden hued, sort of like a short-haired golden retriever if there is such a thing. She has a white muff (chin and neck). She’s donning a red collar. The likelihood that someone reading this will find her is minimal, but I figured the readership here would know people who know people to take care of these type of things. It’s not that warm out there.

This week Amnesty International invites you to “Write for Rights” for human rights in general and the unjustly imprisoned in particular. There will be a table set up at the Multicultural Center at UMD Monday through Friday.
The Walker Art Center’s curated collection of cat videos will be shown at Zinema 2 on Tuesday as part of their Explorers Club series.
