If you type a Web address, or URL, into your post, like “http://www.iggypop.com,” it will not automatically link. You need to create a link.
Of course, sometimes it makes more sense to link to the URL without cluttering your sentence with a bunch of http jibberish. So, keep in mind that you could write, “Check out Iggy Pop’s Web site,” or “Click here, for info on Iggy Pop. (See, the underlined words link to the Web site without spelling out the address.)
No matter what style you choose, you need to use the link icon in order to create a link (unless you know HTML code, which you don’t because you’re reading this).
The link icon is tenth from the left in the top row of tools. It looks like a chain link.
Here’s how it works:
- Highlight the word (or words) that you want linked.
- Click the link icon.
- The “insert/edit link” box will pop up.
- In the “Link URL” field, enter the Web address you wish to link to.
- Click the “insert” button and the text that you highlighted to be linked will now appear with an underline, indicating it is linked.
If you’d like your link to open in a new browser window instead of directing away from Perfect Duluth Day, you just need to add one more step. Before clicking “insert,” go to the “Target” field and switch the setting to “open link in new field.”
