Comic school of art courtesy of former suck.com

For those of you that can draw and like a chuckle...

PART ONE: Basic Laws of Comic Drawing

* Crooked lines are funnier than straight lines.
* Dotted lines are funnier than solid lines.
* Light colors are funnier than dark colors.
* Flat is funnier than perspective.
* Ugly is funnier than cute.
* Top-heavy objects are funnier than bottom-heavy ones.
* Really big is funnier than really small.
* Small kitchen appliances are funnier than furniture. Always include either a blender or, better yet, a toaster in every kitchen setting.

Tasting Freedom.

(I dug this up while reading January's Harper's Weekly magazine in the break room today at work.)

From responses by the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, in Fort Greely, Alaska to a recent survey on new MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat).

The vanilla pudding is so good I ripped it open, licked the inside, and rolled around on top of it like a dog.

Am I supposed to add water to the peanut butter dessert?

Shitcan the meat chunk and give out more granola.

I don't personally like the cheese, but I can trade with it.

Should add Copenhagen dip.

Why in God's name would you put a vegetable in a MRE?

It sounded like a flatulence symphony in my tent all night.

The way it turned my mouth blue flooded my mind with childhood memories, and for a moment I was at peace.

Kids these days!

found_beer_web.jpg

I was walking my dog this morning and came across two beer bottles in someone's front lawn on Kent Rd. At first I assumed they were a couple of empties, which I don't mind picking up, but then noticed they had caps on. I kicked one and it was full! What's wrong with people that they can waste perfectly good premium beer like that? If I were ten years younger I would definitely drink them. They are pretty crusty with road salt and that makes me a little nervous. Another thing you should know is that today is my birthday. My wife says that it's a sign. If I were cleverer with this whole internet stuff I would post a survey but I need to know; are these beers drinkable?

How could you forget your glove in this weather?

Since Minnesota doesn't have this yet, I figured I'd do my best to help my fellow Viking fan.

Your missing glove is at the entry to the dog park at Keene Creek Park.

i was just given access to the beta of hulu.com and i must say it rocks. fox, nbc, sci-fi and others have their tv shows on it plus a few movies. all free. including BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!! i don't know if this means they'll put up the new episodes of BSG when they come out, but that's months away. they have all the new eps of the good nbc shows though (office, 30 rock) and new eps of simpsons and family guy. hundreds of snl clips too

quality is pretty good. it's a flash player like youtube, but at a higher resolution. you can even embed. this is worse than having netflix's watch instantly feature.

snl just doesn't push the envelope like it used to.

name that blog!

I need your blogging expertise for an art car project. I have a 1996 black 4door geo tracker that is starting to rust away. I'm not ready to give it up yet as I love this little car. It's gone across the country, climbed up the tallest mountain in CO, pulled numerous people out the snow, and never fails to impress me, even when I think it's going to die. It's not the prettiest thing anymore (slightly better looking than the image below) so I decided to let others make it pretty for me.

I'm going to be spraypainting Pepe with chalkboard paint and having my friend weld a metal box to the back door that will hold chalk. I'm going to encourage people to draw whatever they want on Pepe (within reason of course). I'll continue to take pictures and upload them to the blog. Additionally, I will encourage people to take a photo of them next to their completed piece and send it to me. If they took video of them chalking my car, that would be great too.

I wasn't entirely sure what heading was appropriate for this topic, but I thought the content was interesting enough to post up for you guys to check out...

Pulled this up on a link from cursor.org originally posted up on yourleaders.org.

The disclaimer at the bottom states that "NOTE: It is a violation of Federal law to duplicate or reproduce this manual without permission. It is not to be photocopied or released to anyone outside of the Executive Office of the President, White House Military Office or United States Secret Service. It has been developed for your guidance and is intended for your personal use. For more information, please contact the Office of Presidential Advance at (202) 456-5309."

It's been redacted to a large degree, but you can download the entire manual in a variety of file types. The posted section deals with attendance, tickets and the handling of "demonstrators."

New Belgium in Duluth!

For ever and ever I’ve only had the opportunity to drink beers made by Colorado-based New Belgium Brewery when I was out West. Now, things have changed.

For the past few months, New Belgium has been doing limited distribution of New Belgium beers in the Twin Cities. Now, however, it appears they will expand distribution into the Twin Ports as well (within six weeks, I’m told).

As of right now, if you are like me and can’t wait to savor a Fat Tire, 1554, or Mothership Wit, you can head over to Warehouse Liquors on Central Entrance in Duluth and stock up now.

I’m feeling fat and sassy!

I Once Was Lost, Now I'm Found!

About a year ago I submitted a funny note I found on the hillsides of Duluth to Found Magazine. On their homepage they have the find of the day and I thought my note would be perfect. Well I waited and waited and went to the site every day for a long time and figured my find didn't make the cut. Till today! You can check it out right here. Sometimes it is the simple things that can make your day.

If the note seems familiar it is because I posted it on PDD when I found it.

Captain, I'm having trouble getting a signal...

[PDD WiFi Wiki Password: pdd123]

So, I was looking at on-line lists of wifi hotspots for Duluth and my considered opinion is that they suck. Let's compile our own list, shall we? Here are my criteria: It must be free and fairly consistent.

Chester Creek Cafe - 8th Street and 19th Ave
Continental Ski and Bike

I (heart) Muzak

I work in the Technology Center. Or the Tech Village. Or the Village. Or that building at Lake and Superior ... whatever it's called.
This time of year, the muzak has a holiday theme I love. They program music from old christmas specials, movies and other stuff.
You should stop by and take a listen. I've found that the best place to hear it is in the bathroom. While sitting there rockin' out, I've also discovered that the lights in the bathroom are controlled by a motion detector. Set for 2 minutes, if you really want to know.
It can be a little disturbing having the lights go out while you're sittin' on the crapper.

The music is always playing, however.

S. O. S.

Last night Mary and I went for a lovely swim followed by a stroll on Park Point. As we were walking, Mary noticed a Bacardi bottle with a piece of brown paper in it. It turned out to be a secret message from "Bobby" of Duluth. He left his phone number and instructed the finder to call at let him know where the bottle ended up. We are going to call and pretend to be from Germany. Oddly, this is the second message in a bottle that I have come across in my lifetime. The other was on an island in Alaska.

Help Wanted 2 bucks

I Found This.

I found this handmade flyer today while walking the dog. Ever since I discovered Found Magazine I have picked up more scraps of paper than I used to. Almost always they amount to nothing but every once in a while you strike gold.

This note is so sweet, I feel like applying for the job. I am submitting this to Found for sure.

p.s. Remember when Davey from Found came to town. That was the sweetest show ever.
