Wanted: Brom Bones

Glensheen Living Literature is preparing to present “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” at the end of October and is looking to fill the role of the deliciously villainous Brom Bones.

Here are the details:

We will hold about 6 or 7 rehearsals
One or two dress rehearsals at Glensheen on 10/18 and 10/19
Three shows on 10/20 10/21, and 10/22 at 7 p.m.
Curtain each evening

Actors will be provided a $100 stipend for their efforts

This is a very unique opportunity—you’re performing a classic tale in a historic, national treasure for a very enthusiastic audience.

Artists (incredibly talented-artists) Gathering at Glensheen

The world’s most talented artists (in our slightly-biased opinion) will be at Glensheen this weekend for the 17th Annual Festival of Fine Art and Craft.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Festival is two days, Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (both days)
The Festival is free
We recommend taking the free shuttle from UMD’s maroon lot B. It will run continuously from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Also at Glensheen: activities for the kids, fantastic food vendors, regular-priced house tours, and 7.7 acres of stunning Lake Superior shoreline

Glensheen will be offering free standard house tours on Friday, May 27 in celebration of the 32nd anniversary of opening to the public. The complimentary community day begins at 9:30 a.m. and the last tour starts at 4 p.m. Tickets can be picked up in the ticket house, located at the base of Glensheen’s parking lot, beginning at 9 a.m.

The standard house tours will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. (Hint: arrive early – a limited number of tickets are available.)

A benefit for Glensheen and the Douglas County Historical Society

A classic tale staged in the living room of a historic, national treasure; Glensheen’s presentation of Edgar Allan Poe’s masterpiece The Fall of the House of Usher promises to electrify audiences in a setting unlike any other.

The Fall of the House of Usher takes center stage Thursday, Oct. 21 through Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The event includes a flashlight tour of the mansion, refreshments, and guided discussion after the show.
