Local artist and design teacher Darren Houser presents on his work, among other presentations at the Martin Library at UMD, organized by Pat Maus.

A recent event at UMD spotlighted comics as a scholarly and artistic pursuit.

Three widely known Minnesota graphic artists shared their work:

• Barbara Schulz, creator of Hitchhiker Vinegarettes, Minnesota College of Art and Design
• Clint Hilinski, action-adventure genre, and creator of The Superiors
• Chris Monroe, author and illustrator of the “Violet Days” series

Three UMD faculty members opened the event with short presentations on comics as cultural artifacts.

Kathryn A. Martin Library Archives and Special Collections partnered with the Duluth Public Library and Duluth Art Institute to host the event. “Comic Panels and Graphic Art” was made possible through a UMD Public Engagement Grant.
