I got to sit down in the new Kirby Student Lounge with the Duluth Demon early Halloween morning. He showed up in full costume, including his usual mask, a body suit, gloves and boots. He was polite, at ease, and very easy to talk to.
Yesterday PDD was contacted by Mark Zmudy, a faculty member at UMD, who warned that the Duluth Demon’s antics should not be taken lightly, and noted the demon was “wanted” by campus police. The latter remark is untrue according to UMD Police Dept. Sgt. Tim LeGarde.
“The ‘Duluth Demon’ is not wanted by the UMD Police Department,” LeGarde said. “His activities have been reported to our department in recent weeks and our officers have contacted him twice. Our contact with him to this point have been cautionary and informal.”
The Duluth Demon himself added that he doesn’t want to let this get out of control.
“I try to make every situation I’m in controlled, in a safe environment,” the Duluth Demon said. “So that not only myself, but the people I’m with are having a good time in a safe place.” Staying true to his word, the demon hasn’t been in Bagely since the police asked him to stop. He does, however, walk around campus in his full demon attire.
“The person who portrays the ‘Duluth Demon’ is a very creative, intelligent young man,” LeGarde said. “We certainly encourage him to expand his creativity at UMD, within the law and with respect for others.”
