This week: Bob, bucking broncos and brews

Here’s a sampling of what you have to look forward to this week on the PDD Calendar.

Tonight check out local musician Markus J. Dandy’s new open mic at Brewhouse.

On Tuesday, that guy who wrote the new Darius Rucker single “Wagon Wheel” will be performing at Bayfront Festival Park.

Then on Wednesday, shuffle your way to the Endion Station on the Lakewalk for the Sidewalk Shuffle 5K, and raise some money for the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign.

Thursday you’ll have a chance to go to Sacred Heart and yell at Low in person for that 27-minute song they played. Tim Kaiser will be there for moral support. If that’s too controversial for you, the Spooner Rodeo starts the same day.

Friday, explore some art that deals with biology, self, and the past and present. Extinct, Extant is showing at the Prøve.

By Saturday you’ll probably need a drink. Join craft brewers from all over Minnesota for the All Pints North Summer Brew Fest at Bayfront.

Last but not least, Tycoons hosts the Meat Puppets Sunday. Actual Wolf and Enemy Planes open.

So what are you doing this week? Can we tag along? Any upcoming events that you want to promote? Let us know.

Just me, or is "awesomeness" becoming a trifle overused around here?

Or maybe just that it should be reserved for things that truly merit the usage, like jumping out of an airplane, or cannalingus?

Is cannalingus when you lick marijuana? That doesn't sound awesome, but I'll take your word for it.

You're right Bluenewt, we must've been looking that up at the same time. I dunno, I think that's pretty awesome, as long as the weed is hooked up to a car battery. You know they say being struck by lightening is one of the most amazing sensations you can have, that is until the voltage ends, and severe pain and depression sets in. I guess everyone has their own definitions and/or how far they want to take a word.

Including but not exclusive to sentences like, 'my mistress gave me a full half hour of pure awesomeness last night..."

The Summer Show of Awesomeness got its name when the show was first being organized several months ago. I called it that on a lark and the name stuck. Hope to see you all on Thursday...

Allright Tim, just kidding...It's an awesome word. By why didn't you just call it Night of Making Love to Flying Vampire Monkeys? I might've thought about going.

Now I want to take this next moment to offer up the first review of the Dylan segment of the show tonight. The first song was great, and had that magical awesomeness we've all come to expect from God. The rest of the set was typical toad garbled four-bar lounge mud. How in balls can you strip that much melody from a song you created? I guess after 40 years if you've sung it more times than there are lakes in Minnesota, you want it to sound like something else after that many runs. Melody so distant as to be barely discernible from say, Porky Pig singing about the whirling dervish as he emerges from the casbah, clicking his heels.

Your eminence, your highness, your patent coolness, grand poobah of skinny minstrel hobo Jewish wizardry. I'm glad you're still kickin' Double B. Even if you are a legendary asshole. The world has come to expect no less. Besides, it happens to all of us as we age, and our brains shrink like roasted peanuts.
