  8. I hated hipsters before it was cool to do so.

    Swan | May 30, 2013 | New Comment
  9. Swan, you rank up there with Mike Stender, Ben Franklin, Zra and many of the people we have known for years. I refer to myself as a Paleo-hipster. Actually, an argument with the co-editor of the site about how I was into this-or-that waaaay before it was hip and him saying “that’s so hip to claim” is what got the whole thing going. Instead of pitching battle, we decided to have fun. We hope our site isn’t hipster hate but truly a “hipster helpdesk” .. where we help hipsters stay on the cutting edge by identifying trends and quantifying when to adopt or reject this or that trend.

  10. I know I’ve poked a lot of fun at the whole concept but…hey…poking fun at social trends is a good time waster. Hell, Frank Zappa made a career at it…

  11. Baci, perhaps I’m misunderstanding a misunderstanding, but I was actually referring to a penny farthing bicycle. Sounds like the time is either perfect or horrible.

Also: I’ve been thinking of trading in my shuttershades. Good idea?

  12. Well, I’ve noticed one problem already. Leeks are no good unless they’re the wild ones you pick yourself. They only really last two weeks before they start wilting, and you have to carry a trowel with a hand-knitted handle cover and reclaimed grocery bag. We get ours from the backyard of a nearby abandoned house, also called the Ramp Store. Collecting them while barefoot and wearing a sixty year old apron is part of the hipster charm.

  13. PBR, rebellious in a conformist sort of way.

  14. Is this ironic skewering of ironic appropriation sincerely tongue-in-cheek? I am so confused.

  15. I’ll answer as best I can.

@Barrett -- This misunderstanding is all mine. I actually didn’t know what a penny-farthing was. I seriously thought you meant old currency which got me riffing on the fact that Hipsters might use old or foreign money to seem more enigmatic … which would make for a hipster trend. BTW Euros are trending up.

@HBH -- All leeks, wild or not are trending up. Knitting is also trending up … you have a future in hipster support, I know the perfect website to which you to could be a contributor. Email me.

@Dave -- Staying hip takes a lot of effort, I cant do it anymore … without help. This is why we do what we do. If we can help one person stay just ahead of the hip crowd, or stop doing something before it gets too un hip, we’ve done our work.

Again, I ask you to subscribe at our site, become one of us … comment, contribute and let’s all work together to keep the hip from being tragic.

  21. How is going out of your way to let everyone know you are not going to the Bob Dylan concert trending?

Bob Dylan at Bayfront Park on July 9 … in case you haven’t heard.

I would guess trending slightly hotter will be complaining that the mere presence in Duluth of the one of the greatest songwriters of all time is just oh, so insufferable.

    Paul Lundgren | Jun 3, 2013 | New Comment
  22. Can you imagine all the Dulutharistocrati at the helm, rubbing one out as we speak, behind closed bathroom doors with a Victoria’s Secrets catalogue at the very thought they might get to meet Bobby? Don Ness, come out from under the bed!

I think Duluth may have ruined Dylan for me. Or Dylan ruined Dylan for me. Maybe I ruined Dylan for my own sanity and went down the same honkey-tonk path he did? Do you think he’ll reprise badass ’65 setting-the-world-on-fire brown sugar Dylan? Or early seventies Kermit Dylan? Maybe a medley sung to the Boxer gone electric? I can’t believe they didn’t get the Bright Eyes for this tour. Then I would’ve gone. I guess I’ll paddle out to it anyway. Then if someone runs me over in a Miami Vice boat I can sue. This way I can also bring a cooler, some LSD, and a fishing pole.

    I can’t believe he’s still alive.

  23. The trend-o-tron 2000 has an interesting take on this. I read it as Duluth is stable, Dylan is falling, this concert is where we’re all on even footing

Dylan and Duluth, star crossed lovers.

NHT calls Dylan as SunSetting and Duluth ( post Owl Glover Egg Farm) as just lame enough to be HipsterGold!

  24. “Not going to see Dylan” is trending mightily on all of my feeds. Apparently aging has affected his voice, so it’s probably a waste of time.
