Thankful in Duluth — 2012 Edition
By Paul Lundgren on Nov 21, 2012 in Sappy Stuff
Not that we aren’t generally grateful at Perfect Duluth Day, but, well … there is a category of posts called “Bitching” and not one called “Jubilant Praise” (although maybe “Recommendations” covers that). Anyway, at least once a year we do throw things open for folks to comment about what they are thankful for in this world (or Duluth specifically).
To start things off, on behalf of the PDD staff, I’d like to thank the nearly 2,000 people who have blogging accounts on PDD and keep the online Duluthist banter going day after day — not to mention the thousands more who lurk on the site, read it regularly, but keep their thoughts to themselves.
We should all be thankful for zero losses of human life during the Historic Summer Solstice Flood Disaster of 2012, although quite a few homes and possessions were wrecked and a few critters met their unpleasant demise. And we should all be thankful the Leap Day 2012 Snowmageddon happened or it pretty much would have been a snowless winter.
But it’s good to be thankful for the little things, too, so I’m going to focus on Goo Goo Cluster pie.
(Here’s what folks on PDD were thankful for in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003.)

I’m thankful for the food I am about to prepare and the time spent with family.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to spend some quiet time with my family right here in Duluth. And I’ll be thankful for any and all snow we get.
I am thankful the election is over.
I am thankful for Paul Lundgren, the very nice man. And the bevy of other curious and interesting people in this fair city.
I’m thankful for everyone who is moving forward. B/C, if you’re not in the future, you’re in the pasture. Also very thankful for the crazy and the cool.
Baci is outstanding in his field. I am apparently in the pasture…
I’m thankful that, even from afar, I can swoon, giggle, and otherwise hob-knob with Duluthians (where my heart resides, regardless of my geography).
Now now Tim, I meant no reference to you … I’m truly thankful for what you do in all it’s clicky beepy whrilly sproingily humming wonder. I consider repurposement very forward looking. I give thanks to the re-users.
I’m thankful for all of it (i.e., what I said last year … redux). Plus the musics and the artses.
I’m thankful there is a Duluth. It’s a wonderful place to visit and I’m sure to live. The vistas on the North Shore and the culture. A bit of sanity in the world of nonsense. And yes I’m thankful for the election being over and most of all the results.
Peanut butter. And socks.
Peanut butter. Socks. And stairs. Stairs rule.
Peanut butter. Socks. Drywall. Cups. Combustion.
The mobile theme said my comment wasn’t posting. It was. I am not thankful for the mobile theme.
I’m thankful for that damn house on Mesaba being torn down.
I’m thankful to live in a town where the demolition of one house is cause for press conferences, news reports, blog threads and widespread community celebration. That’s my town.
I’m thankful for the snow, for going to my friend’s house in the country for Thanksgiving dinner, for moving to Duluth 12 years ago, for all of it!
Thankful, oh so thankful that the elections are over. Thankful that the candidates and the issues I supported prevailed, despite everything thrown at them. Thankful that I can hold my head high and tell people I’m from Minnesota and we voted down hatred and homophobia and voter suppression. Thankful to live in a community where people give a shit as much as they do.
Nice post.
and…
Thanks for this site.
I am finally caught up with everything, and I’m thankful for that.
I’m thankful for my partner, who still puts up with my foibles after seven years.
I’m thankful for my four beautiful children, who make sure my life is never boring.
I’m thankful for my friends, who help me stay sane.
And I’m thankful for Lake Superior, for always giving me comfort, no matter what my mood.
