Haines Road temporarily open between Skyline Parkway and Morris Thomas Road

Haines Road has re-opened between Skyline Parkway and Morris Thomas Road. (Haines Road below Skyline, where it connects to 40th Avenue West, remains closed.) This means it is again possible to travel along Skyline across Haines Road.

From a St. Louis County Public Works Dept. news release:

Run-off from heavy rains caused significant damage and forced the closure of Haines Road (officially known as CSAH 91) nearly four months ago. Since late August, St. Louis County Public Works has been installing a 300-foot-long box culvert in the area where Skyline Parkway overlaps Haines. At the same time, Public Works completed a reclaim and overlay project on West Skyline.

The re-opening of Haines Road is only temporary. It is expected to close again in January when blasting begins as part of a major reconstruction project that will likely last until November 2013.

Prior to the June flood, an average of 7,000 vehicles traveled Haines Road each day. The road had already been slated for reconstruction next year, so when the washout occurred, engineers shifted focus to speed up the project and make the best use of road repair dollars. Once complete, the new road will be wider and safer for both motorists and pedestrians.
