City offers low interest loans to replace flood-damaged furnaces and water heaters

Comfort Systems, the utility provider in the city of Duluth, is offering a low-interest Home Energy Loan program for victims of the Northland Flash Flood who may need to replace furnaces, water heaters, or insulation in walls due to flood damage. The program offers low monthly payments, energy and costs savings for participants, and a low interest rate of 4.99%.

Comfort Systems recommends that property owners get a free home energy audit available through Northern Energetics. Northern Energetics will conduct the home audit and write up the results to determine qualification. Advanced home energy audits are also available using infra red diagnostic tools. To get started, property owners can contact Northern Energetics at (218) 525-3078 to schedule an appointment.

Property owners need to be current or prospective city gas customers. Applications determining eligibility for the loan are processed through Comfort Systems following the home energy audit. A typical Home Energy Loan of $6000 loan would amount to $64 in monthly payments over a ten year period. Comfort Systems staff is available to address questions at (218) 730-4050.

The audit and the Home Energy Loan program are great. I got a new super-efficient boiler through this program and cut my heating bill in half. I wish my mom wasn't so terrified of natural gas heating -- her furnace didn't survive the flood, but she burns fuel oil.
