Chester Park and Creek

Chester Creek Damage

Shots from Duluth Outdoors

We are trying to put something together to have fun/fundraise/organize for flood damage. The problem is so huge that it’s hard to know how to attack but we are thinking Chester Creek and Park since we are named after that. The damage there is significant and federal money will need to be applied for. This event would be more for seed money to apply for grants and do some immediate chainsawing and so forth.

We are thinking the weekend of July 21st and putting up a tent in the vacant lot at the corner of 19th Ave East and East 8th or maybe in our parking lot. Thinking music, food, beer and wine tastings and maybe a home made slip ‘n’ slide down 19th Ave.

Contact us if you are interested.

Thanks,
Carla

More than anything, the park needs hands. Bodies to help clean up the *mess.* shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction, and the cooperation of the community. There's a big cleanup planned for Monday afternoon, in fact, with over a hundred folks signed up to participate. (There's a facebook page for it, though I'm on the dumb phone and don't have access to it) I should be able to bring up a bunch of empty packing peanut bags from work to help out in the garbage and other stuff collection effort. If anyone has any more info on that, post it up! Don't forget your gloves.

Carla, I love your idea, I am sure that Thom Storm and his merry band could use any funds raised at your event. It's great to keep attention on the damage done to the park. I was just there a few days ago, and could not believe the damage. I'm especially sad about the little bridges across the creek, I loved them. The Claire family will definitely be at your event. And thanks in advance to everyone who signed up to help clean up the park Monday! I love how the community is pulling together like this.
