Damn straight eswan, isn't Vic Black the goto guy for all that's good in music? We're all so lucky he left LA to grace all us hicks with his acumen. My band must suck because he's passing on our set at HG this year. He went out of his way to make that clear on our FB page. So kind of the fellow to clear that up, we were all excited that he might come and tell us how to really manage a career in music.

Two comments:

I was unaware Prairie Prince ever played for Journey.

Where is Vic Black's name on the manager listing?

@johnm - I had forgotten about that ... Frankly, now that the 300' rule is gone, I've been too busy buying up wonderful old homes in the hillside and renting them out as below-code firetrap boarding houses for $400 a room. Can you believe I can get 6 to 8 kids in each?! Thank god there's ample parking in the street for each one of the renter's cars. If it weren't for the nosy neighbors notifying the city, which has been way-to-diligent in responding to their moaning when they get up the nards to make noise, I might actually get to profit from the cash cow that higher ed housing could be in this town.

@others re:MTAF(Boston v. Journey) I stand corrected. Sometimes insipid soft rock all blurs together like tepid oatmeal in my head and I need a good dose of

in.dog.neato is correct: More Than A Feeling is not only a Boston tune, but it is The Epic Song of Summer, at least if you were about 14 or so in 1978.

On the other hand: Van Halen was merely Faux VH in the Sammy Hagar yrs. Ask anyone.

I was talking about this the other day @ work...reading the Randy Jackson thing someplace while chasing links...a friend had got his mitts on Raised on Radio, and somehow I got caught up on side projects:

There is a Journey>Van Halen connection as well. Neal Schon was in a band with Sammy Hagar around the same time that Raised on Radio came out called HSAS, with Kenney Aaronson and Michael Shrieve.

Clever analysis Baci and it didn't include a single reference to hillside college students or parking. Sappy is a good post slot for Journey, but please "RIP" would have been equally suitable.

Baci, I've been ruminating on all of those deep Homegrown topics myself lately. And speaking of weaving lives together in our musical community I decided last night (after our Wednesday night rehearsal) that Tangier and Sing! are surely twin sons from another mother, or twin mothers with another son, or something like that.

Anyway, I'm sincerely all about the communal beauty that is Homegrown. Making music is first and foremost about connecting with other people, having fun, trying things out, taking risks, making friends, blah, blah, blah. Happy Homegrown to all and to all a good night.

I was wondering if Randy Jackson was one of the five brothers, but it's even better than that:

Since 2002, Jackson has been one of the panel judges on the Fox Network reality television series American Idol, along with Paula Abdul (2002–2009), Simon Cowell (2002–2010), Kara DioGuardi (2009–2010), Ellen DeGeneres (2010), Jennifer Lopez (2011–present) and Steven Tyler (2011–present). As a result of Cowell's resignation, Jackson is left as the sole original judge on American Idol.

Er ... um ... click on it ... because it's either a graphical analysis of the effects of earned income tax credits and high school dropout indices or a highly informative chronological visualization of the members of the band Journey cross-indexed against the release dates of their albums. Both absolutely useless.
