I took a group of UMD students out to the Brewhouse some years back to have dinner with a visiting speaker. They spent some time perusing the extensive menu and then, I swear to God, every single one of them ordered a bacon cheeseburger.

Are you sure your students want Chinese food?

College students (in my experience as a university professor) are flexible about the eating experience. Set out a bunch of Chinese takeout containers in a Buffet-like setting and they will know what to do.

Any Chinese food place will likely have large portions and send along plates and silverware if you ask for it.

You should bring serving spoons for each dish so that you don't have to use the plastic stuff to dish up.

We did Chinese food for an 8 yo's birthday party and had a good experience.

I have been at a UMD event (a work day at the Sustainable Agriculture Project), where the organizer brought in pans of food prepared by Sala Thai -- not Chinese, but excellent "Asian style."

I don't know how much it cost, but there was plenty of food for the 15 hungry farm workers who were there that day.

Zhong Hua and Jade Fountain both do delivery, but maybe not as far away as your neighborhood. China King Buffet does catering, but a group of 12 people probably doesn't require that.

Buffet style would be the most cost effective, however unless I can get a "take out buffet" - it's not an option. In the past, Grandma's Corporation has been extremely generous in providing discounted pizza's. Ironically, with their tie to Chun King, they have unfortunately not yet opened a Chinese Restaurant.

They give you 9 times as much food as you need, anyway.... are you sure a normal Chinese restaurant won't work?

China Star is the best, by the way. They use real food.

Or wait... college students, they're broke. Too much tuition, alcohol and antibiotics. How about a buffet?
