“What it Takes” competitive concert event to feature local talent on Feb. 11

For a person living in Duluth, Minnesota, it may be hard to imagine living without clean water; for many people, however, this is a daily struggle they must overcome. The water crisis affects over one billion people in our world; countless women and children venture hours every day just to retrieve water, which is usually unsafe for drinking.

Drops of HOPE, a branch of Proctor High School DECA, has partnered with Rotary Club 25 of Duluth to help solve this problem. Proctor DECA created the Drops of HOPE project to raise money and awareness for the water crisis, specifically the Hamar People of Ethiopia.

In Minnesota, clean water is often taken for granted, so Proctor DECA wants to help those living without this basic necessity.

Proctor DECA’s Drops of HOPE has orchestrated a competitive concert featuring the incredible talent of area youth. This charity event will take place Saturday, February 11th, at Marshall High School’s Fregeau Auditorium. The cost is $15 per ticket, and all proceeds will go to the cause. Twelve performers will compete for a grand prize of $1,000. Celebrity guest Tim Mahoney from NBC’s “The Voice” will perform the night of the event, as well as be a judge.

The names of the twelve performers are Olivia Lindberg, Adrianna Leveille, Emily Finn, Erik Huberty, Megan Davidson, Jacey Carlson, Ellie Weihsmann, Mcgail Rogstad, Stephanie Isaacson, Lyla Abuk, Sarah Olson, and Laysea Owens-Henderson.

This exciting event not only will help an extremely deserving cause, but will also be a fun, entertaining night for anyone who loves music, impressive light and laser shows, or who simply wants to experience the best young talent in Duluth!

Tickets to the show are available online at whatittakes.us or in-store at the Electric Fetus in downtown Duluth. On Feb. 11, at the Marshall High School Fregeau Auditorium, What It Takes doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door; however, seats are limited, so secure yours now!

DECA is an international organization of marketing students that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Proctor DECA includes over 50 students, but the Drops Of HOPE team consists of eight dedicated and hardworking juniors and seniors. They have been working on the Drops of HOPE project since June of 2011, and the “What It Takes” concert is the biggest aspect of the project.
