Duluth Care Package

Let’s say you were sending a care package to someone. You want it to reflect Duluth. The female recipient is in college out of state and isn’t from Duluth (although her parents are recent transplants). What would you send?

If money were no object, the package would be a Duluth Pack or Frost River pack. And since money is no object, you can still afford to buy things to put inside it, right?

A growler of Brewhouse El Nino IPA. Or Apricot Wheat. That'll fit well within the pack.

And don't forget some music. Probably the Mayor's Mix from Homegrown, but others might have other suggestions.

You might want to revisit the PDD Gift Guide.

Music is a fabulous suggestion. I think whatever we send will include Father Hennepin's "I Like it in Duluth."

I'm also thinking some of those awesome cookies from Third Street Bakery. And she'll never know if I happen to sneak one from the package first, right?

Hepzibah's in Dewitt-Seitz used to have chocolate-covered nuts with candy shells called Lake Superior Rocks or something of the like. I've given packs of those as Duluthy gifts before.

Drew- Alcohol is illegal to send via the USPS. Not to mention the fact that Brewhouse beer is not pasteurized. Therefore, it must be kept cold in order for it to remain fresh. Tasty idea though!

Postal discount aside, music is a terrible idea, it will never keep. Give the gift of character instead, by giving Duluth musicians much needed time away from royalties to build poverty endurance during these tough times. Instead, I recommend 3 lbs uncut wild rice, and some smoked salmon, they make an excellent soup. Artists need to understand, real strength comes from long deadly winters, huddled by a fire, eating only salmon jerky and fermented wild rice with the occasional red squirrel added for flavor.

Write your wishes on a Kenspeckle Letterpress notecard made on an antique letterpress in the DeWitt Seitz building.

FedEx and dry ice mean Drew's growler is back in the care package. As long as there's dry ice, throw in some wild rice brats from Old World Meats. Lutefisk is optional.
