ARAC Career Development Grants

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council recently approved grant applications totaling $21,195 to be awarded in ARAC Career Development Grants. These arts activities are made possible with funding provided by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and by The McKnight Foundation. The artists and activities funded are as follows:

Career Development Grants Awarded

Peter Pestalozzi – Ely ($2,000) Mr. Pestalozzi will use this grant to purchase equipment necessary to improve images of his work to present to galleries and to improve his website.

Steven Read – Duluth ($2,500) Mr. Read will use this grant to assist in preparing work for an exhibition at the Steffl Gallery at the Duluth Art Institute from January 18 to February 19, 2012.

Margaret Holmes – Hibbing ($2,316) Ms. Holmes will use this grant to purchase equipment necessary to prepare work for an exhibition at the Hudson Hospital Healing Arts Exhibit from February 15 to May 13, 2012.

Richard Johnson – Duluth ($1,879) Mr. Johnson will use this grant to purchase equipment necessary for the preparation of the photographic work for the publication of “The Other Side of Wilderness,” by Will O’ The Wisp Press.

Kyle Sitter – Duluth ($2,500) Mr. Sitter will use this grant to create and film a musical performance showcasing talented local artists.

Andrew Turpening – Duluth ($2,500) Mr. Turpening will use this grant to fund ten weeks of composition time to write “Baroque Breakbeat” music for a full band and to perform the world premiere of the work during the winter months, 2011-12.

Richard Thomas – Duluth ($2,500) Mr. Thomas will use this grant to fund time to write his novel and receive mentoring.

Rachel Nelson – Two Harbors ($2,500) Ms. Nelson will use this grant to develop, remount and rehearse her fringe show, The Urban Hermit.

Kathleen McTavish – Duluth ($2,500) Ms. McTavish will use this grant to produce a multimedia show called “Cave Drawings” in the George Morrison Gallery at the Duluth Art Institute from January 18 to April 8, 2012.
