Saw this all over Vermont a couple of weeks ago. Nice.

There are a handful of places that do the same in the Bayfield peninsula, different berry farms, especially during the shoulder seasons

Is this not common around here? I'm new to this area, but where I'm from in Illinois this is a common practice at roadside produce stands. I've also lived in Vermont and it was the usual practice there too.

People who eat vegetables aren't likely to steal. If you had a cheeseburger stand run on the honor system, I think there'd be reason to worry.

I'm sorry that I pigeonholed cheeseburger eaters, but I've met Wimpy. They ain't up to no good.

When I served a church in Fort Wayne, Indiana we sold Christmas Trees by the honor system in the "bad part" of town. We ended up doing better than the suggested price on average.

Great story Ironic. I see a hallmark Christmas movie in there somewhere. My goslings just love those.

I have pictures of the honor roadside stand on Hwy 53 at about Hayward from a few years ago but they are archived somewhere and i can't find them. If anyone has anymore information about these types of stands I'd like to know more about it for some research I am doing on public markets.

That is an interesting but true demographic. People that are veggie eaters don't steal. But I think it holds true. I see these stands all over the Bayfield area and even into central Wisconsin. Northern people in general are quite honest I've found. I see pumpkins being sold this way all over. And after all if you stole a pumpkin for your kids wouldn't you feel like a class A heel?

I think that is pretty fallacious

That isn't just a pumpkin stand. That was just the more eye-catching side of it. They have been selling all sorts of organic vegetables for really low prices. And now apples, too. It was the organic aspect that really made this stand stand out.

Godwin's Law alert: Hitler was a vegetarian who stole things.

There's another "honor system" stand in Trego, on Hwy 53. Bought a lovely pumpkin there last weekend.
