Minnesota North Shore Fall Colors Report 2011

The fall colors season is upon us. Be sure to get out and check out your favorite places around area to enjoy the changing of the season colors. It has been reported that it will be a great year and I have already noticed some pretty vivid changes taking place.

I also recommend you snap a photo or two of some fall colors when you are out and about and post them here on PDD.

I gotta say that this is pretty close this year. I spend a lot of time around the Cook/Lake County line and this weekend should be peak away from the Lake. I have a photo from the Cramer road, how would I post it?

What auspicious timing.  I just got back from a roundabout camping trip; Duluth -> Grand Portage -> Ely -> Crane Lake -> Duluth, with plenty of stops in between.  I'm a photophile, so I'll share a few.  Leaves were looking great inland from the shore.

My first autumn in Duluth, I was just continually blown away by how the hills were on fire with such vivid red/orange/yellow maples.  Then the ground cover lit up.  THEN the yellow aspens lit up.  I walked through two miles of aspens after a rain:  the bark was uniformly the blackest black, the leaves the most vivid yellow I have ever seen.  Extraordinary beauty, year after year after year.

Happy Hippo has some good photo skills, but are they brown trout or are they pink Salmon? I think the pinkies are spawning right now and I'm going to see them this weekend, if they are still there.

Thanks guys.  I am certainly not a great picture-taker but I enjoy it, and also enjoy sharing.  :P

And hell if I know what kind of fish they are (my fish-identifying skills get about as far as "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.")  I assumed they were brown trout because there were signs posted at the river's mouth about trout catch-and-release.  If they're something different, though, I'll update my caption.

I just did some research about the Salmon spawning at the mouth of the Cascade River and the owner of the Cascade lodge told me the Pink Salmon were running. It makes no difference what fish they are really as it's just interesting as you pointed out. You can watch the wonder of nature and be so zen as you said. I find fall is much like that in general. What a wonderful time.
