Here’s the short version of things you need to know about the big changes at Perfect Duluth Day:

1) The PDD Calendar, which has been available in test mode for two months, will be launching full scale on Monday.

2) The editor of the calendar is Abigail Schoenecker, who can be reached at calendar @ perfectduluthday.com.

3) Effective immediately, PDD’s Blog Policies are changing a bit to discourage posting about events on the blog.

And now to go into greater detail regarding the above:

1) The PDD Calendar was created because more and more posts to the PDD Blog have been about events, but the format of a blog is not a practical way to organize that type of information for readers. The implementation of the calendar should make the blog more interesting while making your search for things to do in town a lot smoother.

2) Abigail Schoenecker is a recent University of Minnesota Duluth graduate with degrees in journalism and sociology. At UMD she was a reporter for Lake Voice and Statesman. She has also been a contributor to the Duluth Brews Tribune and the Homegrown Music Festival Field Guide. She is a Stillwater native, but we don’t tease her about that. Starting on Monday she’ll be posting weekly on the PDD Blog about upcoming local events to look forward to.

3) It’s still acceptable to post on the PDD Blog about event-related stuff; we’re just looking to eliminate the simple event announcements that now belong in the calendar. Read the policies for all the specifics on that. We fully expect it will take a long time for bloggers to adapt to this. So, in the future, please do not comment rudely when you see posts about events. When those posts show up it means either the moderators felt the content met with PDD’s policies or the moderators haven’t gotten around to removing the post yet.

• Yes, there will be an RSS feed for the calendar. Hopefully we’ll be able to share that on Monday. For now we’re still working out the kinks so it publishes items the way we want it to.
• Yes, the calendar will be more comprehensive than it is now. The calendar editor just started entering events yesterday. Give her some time.
