What’s that thing in Canal Park?

I keep wondering every time I go to Canal Park — what is that structure being built in the northeast corner of Canal Park, just across from the Endion Station building on that construction site over there. Does anyone know?

The mayor's new impenetrable lair.

It's one of the many storm sewer runoff containers being built around Duluth.

Specifically, the East Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Overflow Storage Facility.

It is the big ugly thing that people complain about. Keeps shit from dumping in the lake when it rains.

Has anyone seen the completed plans? Will in be covered in grass or appealing to the eye? It's so big!!!

I think it's getting a mural.

Since it's in a tourist-centric part of Duluth, the city plans to let any tourists who are interested add something special to the mural. It's gonna look real nice when it's done.

It's going to be a shark tank with a ramp up to and over the edge with a sign that says: Surreys this way.

The shark excrement will feed algae which will then be harvested for biomass. Duluth is going super green. Energy is people.

Poop shark.

That is a serious contender for Greatest Plan Ever, even if the energy portion proves no more successful than the Excelsior boondoggle.

Eventually it'll be another hotel. just wait, you'll see (actually, not see... the lake).

The bunker motel. Nuke proof and windowless.
Built for a gale of November wave.

A similar tank out at 21st Ave E. and Water St. was covered with a parking lot and landscaped area right where the lake walk mets Water St. A usable solution.

The top of the tank at 21st Avenue East is significantly closer to street level than the one down in the corner of the lake.

Love the shark tank idea.

I think the tanks should be made of 2'-thick clear acrylic. If people could watch what "almost went in the lake," they might be inspired to take better care of it.
