Where in Duluth?

As a thank you to Starfire for establishing the “Where in Duluth” category link, I figured I should contribute. Do your best.

Corner of 20th Ave. W. and W. Fourth St. Tucked almost under Piedmont/Hwy 53. Love that sign!

Lisa beat me to it. I used to live right down the street from it.

Bonus Round:

May 23, 1851, is another date absolutely nothing happened at a specific spot.

Where in Duluth is this?

Bret

Farmers Market.

Paul Lundgren

No, but good guess, Bret, based on the look of the building.

A quick google search reveals that nothing much of note seems to have happened anywhere on either of those dates, which perhaps in itself is something worthy of note. At least in Duluth.

See what I mean...?

Who uses listserv anymore?

Zra, I have no idea what you mean.

Dave, although perhaps no one can say what happened on those specific dates, I can offer some historical context.

1851 is two years after Minnesota Territory was signed into existence by President James K. Polk. The territory had a population of about 10,000 American Indians and 5,000 white settlers at the time, and included the portions of North and South Dakota east of the Missouri River.

1851 is three years before the LaPointe Treaty was signed, making white settlement in Minnesota possible.

1874 is one year after Jay Cooke's bank failed, precipitating a financial panic.

1874 is three years before Duluth lost its city charter and reverted back to village status. (City status was regained in 1887.)

To make this one more interesting, the first person to comment on where the 1851 Nothing Happened sign is located wins a weeklong pass to the Homegrown Music Festival.

Funny -- I'd never seen the sign TouchdownJohnson posted, but I know where the sign Paul posted is. And I guess it would be pretty unethical for me to win a PDD contest, so I'll let someone else take the prize home.

I think that's the pavilion out at Fond du Lac.

Tamara is incorrect.

Hey Paul, I like things that are interesting...the 1851 sign is near the Zoo on the alley/driveway that connects Fremont and Waseca.

Happy Homegrown!

Paul Lundgren

Tony Rubin is correct! And since he's not in a band playing Homegrown this year, he can probably use the free ticket.

Touchdown Johnson

Wow not only did the first person get it, but there's two of them. Cool.

You should've saved this picture for another week ... exactly 137 years to the day since absolutely nothing happened.

Touchdown Johnson

Aw, I can't believe I didn't think of that!

Paul Lundgren

I guess I screwed up worse. I was less than a month from being 160 years to the day since absolutely nothing happened.

Barrett Chase

Nothing happened today either.

davids

It has been exactly 8 hours, 27 minutes and 32 seconds since nothing happened on the spot where I am sitting right now. Huzzah!

There's a really annoying dog at the house that you posted, Paul. I was walking by there the other day, and it wouldn't stop barking at me until I was like 1/2 mile away!
