Students at UMD have launched their second week of stories on LakeVoice, along with this slick audio spot. Week2 LakeVoice
One of the more interesting stories among the recent batch on LakeVoice is about Duluth Family Sauna:
“Historic sauna continues to serve downtown Duluth”
I’m curious why the story failed to mention the place is best known as a gay bathhouse. This seems in line with a re-branding effort at Duluth Family Sauna, which has changed its website and no longer has its infamous message board to facilitate hookups.
It’s also interesting that this story comes from a University of Minnesota Duluth student, but fails to mention that last May UMD officials shut down a live webcam at the UMD Library because it was being streamed on Duluth Family Sauna’s website with the headline “Stalking Local Wildlife at the UMD Library.”
I’m not suggesting the article should have reveled in elements of controversy, but it was surprising to me that it avoided acknowledging a well-known aspect of the sauna’s image — especially as it related to the university.
One: context.
Two: “Single men usually go downstairs to the ‘bullpen’ where there are several resting rooms and lockers besides the large common steam room & shower room. This area is strictly for men only.” I see the Faggoty-Ass Faggotry review (c. 2008) still clocks in at #2 on Google.
I have always wanted to go take a nice sauna there. Are gay bathhouses legal or are there rooms considered hotel rooms so people do what they want? Do they sell T-shirts?
It’s pretty much the same thing as a hotel room.
But no soap.
