Apparently the plans for a brewpub in Canal Park are moving forward, targeting next summer to open.

Wow! I am excited to see what transpires here. Do you guys have any other details? Who are the owners? Is there any sort of ‘theme’ in mind? Who will be the brewer?
Owners are the same as Canal Park Lodge as far as I know — Island Investment, Inc.
Rocky Kavajecz is the project manager and a well-known developer. In addition to Canal Park Lodge, he’s part-owner of Hotel Chequamegon and Super 8, both in Ashland; and Country Inns in Duluth, Eau Claire and Menomonie.
He’s also a part-owner of the Hayward Cinema Four movie theater and is working on a mixed-use project in Mountain Iron that includes a Holiday Inn Express, restaurant, convention center and commercial-retail development. For more about that, read “Rock Ridge developer thinks big with mixed-use $100 million project,” by Wayne Nelson, Business North.
Rocky’s father, Ted Kavajecz, and other family members are partners in most of his investments.
The building is gone out of necessity. The new owners of the property got a grant to do a hazardous materials cleanup of the site — it was industrial use for decades. There was a news story within the past month that said they were knocking down the building to make it more cost effective to clean up the area, and then would put up a new building (I assume for the brewing operation).
The latest word is that construction will start this fall. I think originally they planned to use the old building, but are instead constructing from scratch.

We will definitely check it out.
Sweet!
Very cool! Paul, you are one on-the-ball dude!

Are they going to be able to get an easement to the left of building?
Hopefully they offer a “spring ale”!
Good god, Paul, is there anything that happens in Duluth that you don’t know everything about?
@ Mendoza
“Spring Ale”, huh? I see what you did right there : )
@ jonny: yeah, we’re a punny bunch.
So this building is now gone. It doesn’t look good for the Canal Park Brewing Co. Anybody know what the plans are now?

Anything news worthy about this brewery? It still looks like an empty lot.

Duluth Tycoons is supposed to open around October as well.
I really hope they don’t call it Tycoons.
You would prefer Raccoons?
Only if the waitstaff dressed up as Daniel Boone.
