Wow! I'm happy to be on this blog. Thanks for posting this. And I'll let you know the details of my September events--launch party in Duluth, of course. I hope nobody expects me to look like I do in that picture, which was taken, um, about 20 years ago.

Laurie, you don't look ALL that different. Reminds me, my Q & A with you is due next week. . . Ann Klefstad and I are going to make you a literary star!

Claire, ahem--I no longer have a mullet! I am looking forward to the Q&A, especially to see if I said anything comprehensible.

Congrats, Hoitzel!

Love the cover. (U of M Press, huh? Hmmf!)

By the way, PDDers, Laurie is also author of "Boomtown Landmarks" a book about some of Duluth's old buildings (accompanied by sketches) released by Pfeifer-Hamilton in the early 1990s. (The DPL still has it on their shelves if you want to check it out.)

I've read Laurie's memoir and it's a compelling read, especially for those of us who live here, as Laurie writes about starting off at the DNT during the "golden age" of newspapers and how the DNT changed over the years. The chapters about how Petrazavodsk became a Duluth Sister City and about the American expats she met during her 1986 are fascinating.
