And the Wall Came Tumbling Down

The ~4 foot-high retaining wall that holds up (well, used to) our driveway just dumped over with an impressive thud. Can anyone recommend a (reliable but not bank-breaking) contractor for this kind of work? It has been leaning for a couple of years, so there will probably be some excavation of dirt that has to be done before a new wall is put up. Only the top of one section fell down, but the rest is really leaning.

Thanks!

  1. I’d tell you to call Hobbes, Jeff Hobbes, at Garden Magic. He told me he does that kind of thing. I’ve known him for 15 years and he is the bomb.

  2. We have had good experiences with Lakewood Masonry. As Calk says, Jeff (Hobbes) Quast at Garden Magic is great for all kinds of garden needs — tilling, turkey poop, you name it.

  3. Hobbes is King and spring is his thing…definitely when he is peaking.

Beaumont Stoneworks is very capable of constructing a stylish wall that will last a century.

Hand-crafted stonework is worth more than the money you’ll save if you consider precast block. Bluestone, baby … Earth power. Your neighbors will thank you.

  4. We need to do something about our rotting retaining wall too. . . I like the idea of using bluestone. Thanks for the tip Waveview!
