Laskiainen did not start off as a sliding holiday but the decent into fasting 40 days before Easter. A Christian church holiday for the beginning of Jesus' travel to Jerusalem and as a topic in the church is God's sacrificial love.
February 14 is Laskiais Sunday and 16th is the actual church day.
