Bob Dylan’s “Must Be Santa”

Harkening back to akjuneau’s post from when the album was first released, here’s Bob Dylan’s video single from his recent “Christmas in the Heart” album. What’s your take on the visuals as well as the audio? Will you be popping this in the rotation during your family mixer?

  1. I think I’ll continue with by general disinterest in Dylan’s Christmas album, but I must say this video is mighty hot.

  2. This song was a free iTunes download a week or 2 ago, so yeah, I’ll put it in the mix with the Dean Martin and the Elvis and the Ray Charles. This is one of the songs that I thought actually worked pretty well. I like the video – hadn’t seen that hairdo on Bob before.
Now, was he in the Fixx

    or was it the Cramps?

  3. I would have to say that this is a great Christmas song/video. especially at 2:00 when it goes from listing riendeer to listing U.S. presidents.

  4. I loved the old Raffi version of this song.

I can’t be sure, but I think Gene Autry might have written this song. Perhaps he just made it famous first.

  7. It’s Tom Petty hair, and the video suggests it’s a song for drunk people.

  8. This song would be great on a polka/klezmer themed Christmas compilation!

William Fredericks and Hal Moore are credited with writing “Must Be Santa”. Gene Autry and Oakley Haldeman wrote “Here Comes Santa Claus”.

  9. reminds me of house parties I’ve been at..I like that…feels like good old school MN tongue in cheek and I like it. I have written off this album until I saw this … side note, in the process of enforcing community expectations about not creating distractions in our school environment a kid claimed to be fighting authority “like bob dylan would, even though I think he sucks but all you teachers around here seem to like him” … oh, ok ..you invoked the name of dylan .. so go ahead and sell blue dew out of your locker and dump it on the carpet, beat the crap out of your guitar in the middle of geometry (which you’re failing). This same kid claims that slash didn’t graduate from HS so he wont either. I informed him that brian may has a doctorate in astro-physics and that zappa was a genius .. “I dont even KNOW who those guys are!” … kid, you better practice your burger flipping. Sorry for the rant .. I like that video.

  11. Oh my god, it really is Tom Petty’s hair. And hat.

Love it. It’s totally bonkers, but I love it.

  13. I will admit that as a huge Dylan fan I had a huge reluctance to even listen to this one. But this album is awesome. It’s just surreal. The album has an odd David Lynch atmosphere. I have listened to it multiple times and I will say that I am not a fan of the Christmas music but this album made me smile more than once. Much as I imagine Zimmy was smiling throughout the production of it. He sure does love being Bob Dylan.

  15. “Harkening” is an alternative spelling, not a misspelling. I purposely chose it because it looks more appropriate for the season.

  16. Gosh, I hope he comes to Duluth one more time to make music. Thanks for sharing this!
Mr. Dylan, if you are reading this…I want an interview.
