Redneck Sighting in Canal Park

My wife got this in a mass forwarded email today. I’m still trying to figure out who took the picture, someone at SMDC was the first to forward it as far as I can tell. Anyone who knows anything else please post it here or contact me so I can credit the intrepid photographer. I’d really love to congratulate the intrepid ATV-or-bust-redneck who managed to strap the vehicle to his car car, (and yes, I know it was a he) but that might be asking too much. I think this image has got some real PDD banner potential.

A few thoughts:

1. This photo has to be a fake.
2. This photo is probably not a fake.
3. It is very apt that the car is a '95 (or so) Pontiac or Buick.
4. It is also apt - given the smears aft of the wheel wells - that the car "lives" on a dirt road.
5. #4 re-enforces the "non-fakeness" theory.
6. I need to meet the driver of this car.

most likely not fake. notice how low the rear end sits. looks like it's riding on the springs.

We live in a place where the likelihood of this being real is far greater than the likelihood of it being fake.

On what is the front of the strap hooked? Did he/she carve out the rubber lining around the windshield to hook the strap?

Wouldn't that seriously degrade the integrity (not to mention the water-tightness) of the windshield?

The mind boggles...

Aren't there bike racks that attach like that? I can't believe it's going to hold. You don't want to be driving behind this guy when it lets loose, that's for sure.

It's like watching a chihuahua try to hump a St. Bernard.

There's nothing like a stop at On the Canal Salon & Day Spa after a long day of ATVin'.

I'd love to find out what tape they have in the player. My guess is Winger.

whatever they have that front strap attached to, they got it reefed down pretty tight. the front wheels are making a pretty good dent in the roof.

i can't really tell due to the resolution and angle of the shot what exactly he's got that strap hooked up to.

Shading and reflections match up. Not a fake.

Car mullet.

Since he seems to not be concerned with the huge dent in the roof, he could have bolted a special tie-down holder to the front part of the roof.

I always wanted to start a photo blog of stuff I've tied to the top of my car (couches, Roland electric piano, tables, futons, kiddie swimming pool, baby bouncy saucer thing) but this would win. The fact that there is obviously more value placed on the object hauled than the car makes it win.

The car is a 1993-era Buick Park Avenue, with the original hubcaps, which I think only makes it more fun.

thats not a strap to the front, it's a steering wheel linkage. I think you can drive the car from the ATV. This is an attempt to have all the "fun" of 4 wheeling on the highway pavement.

I forwarded this link to the photographer of the indeed very real redneck siting.
I commented that it could only be more redneck if there was a baby carrier attached, and it had a baby with a rebel flag onesie in it.

I saw the guy taking a picture of this! It was a man just strolling by and it was the day before Thanksgiving in canal park. Definitely not a fake. Crazy up northerners! 'Only round here does this not have crowds of people hanging outside in complete and utter confusion'

Definitely real. I work at On the Canal Salon and my coworkers made a sighting of this vehicle. Apparently, the occupants dine at Subway. Unfortunately, they have not yet patronized our salon. Too bad, since we do a wicked mulletectomy.
