Greg Gagne as a "High Flyer" -- awesome. That guy was pretty untalented, as I recall. It must help having your dad as the owner, as he managed to be Sgt. Slaughter's tag-team partner for a long time.

I think AWA was the precursor to ECW in the mid-1980s -- they had the Road Warriors and Stan "The Lariat" Hansen, who were pretty badass.

Mulkey-mania forever,

Because you tweaked my memory strings by mentioning Baron Von Rashke, I have to put a word in for Omaha and Nebraska (my home town and state) here.

My dad took me to an "All-Star Wrestling" gig in Omaha when I was maybe 8-9 years old (this would've been the mid-70s). We saw Baron Von Rashke with his infamous claw, and he was touted as a local b/c he had wrestled for Omaha North and later the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. So, yeah, maybe you can claim him as one of Minnesota's finest, since he honed his professional wrestling "performance" skills in Minneapolis, but all Cornhuskers know he is really one of "Nebraska's finest." Here's his official web page: http://www.baronvonraschke.com/history/

At the event my dad took me to, Mad Dog Vaschon (who is credited on the web site with encouraging Rashke to adopt a "less wholesome persona"), performed biting off an opponent's ear. Good, clean family entertainment in them there days in Omaha!

I haven't thought about any of that in 25 years--Verne Gagne, The High Flyers (Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell), Bobby "The Brain" Heenan--thanks for the memories.

Hotrod, I have to call you the poor man's Vince Neal, just to find out if I'm the poor man's anything.

And don't say I'm the poor man's nothing. That would just be mean.
