Anyone need a pile of empty coffee sacks?
Yep...that's right...a pile...a huge frickin pile of 'em. I have more than 2,000 skidded up in our basement at work taking up valuable space. They used to contain green coffee. Now they don't, and they're not much use to us.
Ideally, I'd like to unload the whole lot all at once, but a hundred at a time would be cool as well. If you've got some gardening, composting, landscaping, or general projects around your domicile this spring/summer; setting the Guinness record for the single largest sack race, new dog bedding, working on your car, or cushion covers for that ratty old couch in your garage...these babies would be ideal. We have two types, jute and another type of natural fiber...both of which break down and compost rather well over a relatively short amount of time. They're handy, they're clean...and have a plethora of uses (HA! I used the word "plethora" in a sentence!).
We normally have regulars who come in to pick up ten at a time, but since we generate about a hundred or so a week, more are emptied than go out the door...

If you'd like, leave a comment (i'll get yer email off that) and I'll set you up with the info...

MNTap's material exchange program might also be a way to go. I think they're affiliated with U of M and WLSSD. http://mnexchange.org/

what are the approximate dimensions? how many gallons would they hold, if they could?
Posted by: rnarum | March 27, 2007 12:32 AM
gallons?
of liquid?
oh god, I hope not...you'll have one heck of a mess on your hands...
kidding, kidding!!!
umm, they used to contain green coffee, to the tune of about 134-154 pounds (154lbs is 70 kilos, for you Eurotrash types, 134 is 60kilos)...so...2 foot by three foot? just a guesstimate...
as for gallons? gees, I dunno...

I bet if you put them on Freecycle they would all be gone in one day.

I picked some up awhile ago! They are awesome for wrapping your trees to protect them from the deer.
Also, we have a decorative scarecrow that is commercially made from burlap.
Our intention for the others will be to create MORE scarecrows to sell at the fall festival in october (shameless plug!)

freecycle is option #3...we're trying to get rid of as many in one shot as humanly possible. A couple of years ago, I did post on Freecycle, but we had people coming in and just grabbing one or two...not really enough to make a dent in what we were generating in a day...
I got rid of a couple hundred by giving them to the Community Garden people...which was cool...I'll hit them up next week and see if they need any more...
Thought I'd offer 'em up to my comrades here on PDD first...

I might be interested in a large quantity depending on where you are located and how much shipping cost to Tulsa, Ok would be.

Hi-I've been looking for these things for ages.
I got some a couple of years ago in Sri Lanka and use them to store spuds-they are better than paper sacks.
Shame you can't ship them over here otherwise I would buy a load of them from you.
All the best from the UK
